Day trip Kulusuk
After a week on board, it's time to leave our ship, but the adventure in Greenland is not quite over yet. Now we explore Kulusuk and its surroundings.
You will leave your packed luggage on board, and it will be transported to the airport. You will have access to your luggage only in connection with the flight back to Iceland in the afternoon. The group flight back to Keflavik departs at 19:00.
At 09:00 you will leave the ship and together with a PolarQuest guide and an experienced local guide you will take a small boat to another island to do a glacier hike and ice cave exploration. Wear hiking boots that are a little sturdier and reach above the ankles - this is to be able to attach crampons and to protect and stabilise your ankles when walking on uneven terrain. Pack a small backpack with wind and waterproof jacket and trousers, a water bottle, a pair of gloves and a warmer layer, as the 20-minute boat ride to the glacier can be chilly. Helmets and crampons are provided on site.
For those who are not able to walk to the ice cave, as it can be a bit steep or rocky, there is the possibility to cruise by boat at the glacier and around the many icebergs in the area.
During the excursion, a light lunch is served and enjoyed with beautiful views of the area's glacier.
After the boat trip back to Kulusuk, a guided city tour awaits, including visits to the cemetery, church and, if open, the museum. The tour ends with an early dinner. Then it's time to head to the airport. As on arrival, we will need to walk on a dirt road to the airport, and the walk will take about 30 minutes.
