A wonderful day in Antartica

An excerpt from the expedition cruise to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia & Antarctica 2015.

The Antarctic peninsula
Today’s excursion was Mikkelsen Harbour and the scenery was more grandiose than we ever could have imagined, especially with the light and the sun working its way through. Cierva Cove was next, and here we were met by views even more spectacular than those we enjoyed during our morning landing. Here we saw leopard seals, crabeater seals and chinstrap penguins surrounded by glaciers – what a fairytale! Suddenly we heard music and a Zodiac appeared and we were served hot juice or something a little stronger to warm you up, if you’d prefer. What a day!

So far, we have had the luck on our side with good weather and relatively calm winds over the passages to both the Falklands Islands and South Georgia. Some adventurers have even been kayaking! We can tick off whales, penguins, albatrosses, seals, petrels, dolphins and if we continue to have luck with the weather, we can thank the higher powers that we have experienced this paradise at its very best.
