Please read about an exciting meeting with a polar bear in the light, Arctic summer night during a cruise with our ship M/S Quest below.
We had just put ourselves to sleep after this summer's hottest and sunniest day here in Svalbard. Right then, we hear that Melvin, one of the ship's able seamen, has spotted a polar bear on land in Raudfjorden. We jump straight out of our beds to go out on deck. We soon realize that we do not want to miss seeing this great and beautiful female from our Zodiacs, and in less than 20 minutes all the guests have taken their seat in the boats. When we find ourselves not any less than 30-40 meters from the bear a group of beluga whales suddenly appears just beside us. We watch the bear for about an hour before we return to the ship just after 1:00 am at night. Everyone is very satisfied and falls into a deep sleep after an eventful day.
