We loaded all Zodiacs at 09 AM in the sunshine, and drove from Sallyhamna (a small bay w/a trappercabin from 1937) into the beautiful Fuglefjord. Here we got to see a variety of wildlife; a walrus, curious harbour seals and eider ducks.
Towering in the middle is Svitjod glacier, cracking and rumbling as we stayed there eyeing its blue jagged ice towers along the glacier front. None of us wanted to return to the ship for lunch, but after delaying the return twice we headed back to M/S Quest.
Sailing South during the afternoon, we found ourselves in Magdalenafjorden. Here we did a Zodiac cruise as well as an extra landing at Gullybukta to see walruses. They were not quite sure about our presence, even though we were far away.
We retreated and went to Graveneset just nearby. Graveneset is special due to its abundance of whalers graves. Over 130 graves have been located in this little point, thus making it the biggest of its kind in Spitsbergen.
Please note: Depending on the lens used for a photo or video shot an animal may appear to be closer than it is. We always follow strict wildlife guidelines to ensure that we do not cause any disturbance.
