Miriam Vermeij

Miriam developed an interest in nature at an early age and spent most of her free time outdoors exploring local insects and plants. Her interest in nature led her to environmental science studies and she’s got a degree with a specialisation on soil pollution.
In 2009, Miriam made the choice to spend more time as a nature guide in the local forest and National Park “De Biesbosch” in the Netherlands. Besides that, she had several assignments as a self-employed consultant on topics related to nature, environment, and environmental planning.
During a trip to South America, the Falklands and Antarctica in 2006 she got the passion for the poles. The first contact with the Arctic was in 2011 and after another trip in 2013 she came back as field assistant on the Dutch polar expedition (SEES) in 2015 and to the Dutch polar station in Ny Alesund in 2016. Since 2017 she has been guiding in the Arctic, followed by the Antarctic.
When Miriam is not guiding on ships in the Arctic and Antarctic-regions, she is guiding school kids and adult groups on walking and boating trips in The Netherlands. With the years she became specialised in birds, plants and (marine) mammals.
