Nils Carlsson, one of our most experienced guides, will be the expedition leader on our exciting journey from the stunning Lofoten Islands to the realm of ice – Svalbard. On board, he will be joined by four other knowledgeable guides, whose combined expertise contributes to a captivating and immersive expedition. Having completed this journey several times before, Nils shares his thoughts and expectations for this year’s adventure in this blog post.

What are you most looking forward to on this expedition?
– I love the beautiful sense of calm that prevails, and it is magical to experience spring and see the light reach all the way to Svalbard. Despite the lingering snow and ice, the ever-strengthening sun creates the conditions for yet another Arctic summer – with nesting birds and blooming polar flowers.
Who is this trip for?
– This trip is perfect for anyone who loves wild and beautiful nature! It’s a fantastic opportunity to bring out your sketchpad and pencil, watercolors, or camera to capture everything from the smallest details to the grandest landscapes. Binoculars are a must! There’s something truly special about standing on deck, scanning the horizon for birds, whales, and Arctic wildlife on the ice.
How would you describe the expedition?
– This expedition is incredibly exciting! It truly offers three destinations in one and provides an experience beyond the ordinary.
First, Lofoten awaits, an incredibly beautiful place at this time of year, with snow-covered peaks while the valleys begin to turn green. In the small villages, cod is hung to dry on wooden racks. Seabirds have started gathering for their journey north – it’s crucial to be first to secure the best and safest nesting spots.
Next, we head to the legendary Bear Island, located midway between Northern Norway and Svalbard. Its exposed location makes landings rare, but if the weather permits, we can enjoy an exciting Zodiac cruise among dramatic cliffs, spires, towers, and caves.
After Bear Island, we continue north – towards the magnificent Svalbard.
