Lofoten, Bear Island & Svalbard with M/S Quest

Right now our ship M/S Quest sails from Bodø towards the pearl of the Arctic, Svalbard. Below can you read a brief summary of the first days of the trip, written by the Expedition Leader on board.

4-5 May
During the first night after leaving Bodø behind, small pods of pilot whales were spotted very close to the ship. The following day we found ourselves at the far end of western Lofoten, anchoring in front of Moskenes Island. We had a good stroll through Sörvågen in the morning and visited the Stockfish Museum in Å in the afternoon. Good timing, since it was raining later on.

We spent the next day on the border to Vesterålen in Digermulen. We were surprised by a cold wind and snow in the mountains, but we could also enjoy a lot of sunshine. The expedition members could choose between a hike to Kejservarden, bird watching at the coastline or even a successful fishing trip - they caught 13 cods!

6 May
In the afternoon we sailed into a marvelous and sunny Trollfjorden, observed by two young white-tailed eagles. The rest of the day we sailed through Raftsundet and Sortlandsund, before we headed out on a fairly rough crossing towards the seldom visited Bear Island.
